About
Baker—Hall is delighted to present I've seen a bird before, an immersive quilted textile installation by Jen Clay. Jen Clay uses soft forms, bright colors, and the domestic familiarity of quilting to transform the language of cosmic horror into a world that feels playful and approachable, yet increasingly unsettling. Birds with puppet-like mouths gather and circle one another within a seemingly friendly grove of pink and purple trees inspired by invasive kudzu vines. Their embroidered messages shift between tenderness, encouragement, and threat, giving each bird a voice and heightening the sense that something is about to happen. Created with neurodivergent, visually impaired, and anxiety-sensitive audiences in mind, the sensory-inclusive installation encourages visitors to look closely and spend time within its strange and carefully constructed world.
