The Reach of Light
about
On View: June 4th-6th Limited-time art exhibition featuring acclaimed Florida LGBTQIA+ artists Josh Aronson (jda.usa), Celeste Burns (celesteburnsphotography), Ricky Cohete (rickycohete), Juicy Love Dion (thejuicylove), David Gary Lloyd (davidgarylloyd) and Michael Zimmerer (michaelgzimmerer). The Photography inspired installation transforms the iconic sanctuary into a gallery space, offering an immersive encounter with the artist's and their work. Presenting these photographic and visual mediums at a historic place of worship forces us to consider how art in religious institutions can create visibility, acceptance, and belonging. Across the works presented, light operates both as material and metaphor. References to halos, iconography, and devotional imagery as seen through a contemporary queer lens, invite viewers to consider how divinity is ascribed.
